Hi Everyone, welcome to the You’re Daily Cup of Joe Podcast, where my goal is to give you 10-minute lessons on how to grow yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually so you can have better careers, better relationships, and better personal finances. I’m also the author of the book “More You Know, More You Grow: How to Get Better Every Day”. In this book, I wrote down over 30 tips to help you grow in those four cornerstones.

Here is my philosophy in life, Today is the oldest we’ve ever been in life and today’s also the youngest we’ll be for the rest of our life. I’ll say that again, today is the oldest we’ve ever been in life and today’s also the youngest we’ll be for the rest of our life. To me, that means whatever I want to accomplish, I better do it as soon as possible because I’m not getting younger and it’s probably going to harder to do the older that I get. Death is something that I think about in the sense that if I die tomorrow, would I regret it. I can’t do everything today, but I can make sure that I’m working on my purpose in life while also enjoying the moment. I used to be in some miserable positions in life. I remember not liking my job in high school as a grocery bagger. I remember not liking my job as a Marine starting at year 5. I remember not liking my job as a federal employee and valet. I remember my parents being miserable in their jobs but they did it for me and my sisters. I guess I have the benefit of not being in a relationship or having kids at this time because it is allowing me to explore the person I want to be but I know for sure I don’t want to be in a position where I am stuck and miserable. Life is too short to stay there for years or decades. I’m always going to figure out a way to pivot of that situation.

To make sure I’m ready for life and to decrease the likelihood of becoming stuck, I have to treat my life like this John Wooden quote, “Your outer circle success will never surpass your inner circle success.” So if you want the outer circle success of your career, your relationships, and your finances, you need to work on yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I working on a quiz right now that will grade you on each of the four cornerstones. So let’s say you take the quiz and you find out that you’re 75% strong physically and mentally, and you’re 50% strong emotionally and spiritually, then you only have a score of 250% out of a perfect score of 400%. And if we divide 250 by 400 we get 62.5%, which means your inner circle grade is a D. If you this is a D, that means you probably have D relationships, a D career, and D personal finances. Then I like to say, if your inner circle is a D, then life has the opportunity to give you the D, and if you’re getting the D by life, that means you’re getting F’d by life. I know I don’t want to get F’d by life and I don’t want you to be F’d by life either.

The way we are going to prevent that is by working on ourselves every single day. This can be very overwhelming but the key thing is to just get a little bit better in each of those four cornerstones. You don’t have to be great to get started, you just have to get started to become great. My goal with this podcast, is to give you daily tips to enjoy with your coffee in the morning to help you make better decisions for the day so that you can become the best version of yourself by having that strong inner circle.

I didn’t start off with a strong inner circle though and it took me 20 years to figure things out. It took a lot of failures and figuring stuff out so that I could get a clear vision of my future. I’m 33 as of this recording and I have absolute clarity about the future I want because I took time every day for the past 6 years to work on my inner circle. Now I’m in the career that I want to be in for the rest of my life, I have peace with the person I am, and I have never been more satisfied with life. This did not happen overnight and I’m very intentional with how I treat my time and for the self-care I put myself. I’m just a big believer that we should work harder on ourselves than we do anything else. We’re a blank canvas that needs to be turned into something great. The only thing, we decide what that canvas is going to look like. We need the tools in our toolbox to start painting. I’ve spent a lot of money and time on gaining tools for myself and now I’m getting to work on my painting.

One constant theme about my life and this podcast is that you got to learn. The more you learn, the more you earn. I love to learn things that will save me time and help me think more creatively so I then can leverage my time towards more of the things that are more important to me. A lot of great things have come my way because I took the time to listen to podcasts, read books, and take courses, and I want to share my lessons with everyone so that I can have a better life with less stress, more confidence, and less time regrets.
