Go With Joe,
Grow With Joe
Hi, my name is Joe Bautista, and I’m all about getting one percent better every day. If you get one percent better every day, then you’ll be 3700% better at the end of one year.
I’m the son of a Mexican immigrant who had a third-grade education and worked in the fields. I grew up in a mobile home, but I am fortunate to have great parents that raised me with great values. I joined the Marine Corps out of high school to get my education paid because I wanted to make sure I didn’t stay as a grocery bagger forever.
This was just the first step in growing myself. Since then, I have been able to get a B.S. in Public Health, B.A. in Economics, MBA with a focus on Business Analytics, and my CFP® Designation.
I believe that you can outgrow your situation with enough patience, courage, and hard work. Most people work hard, but they don’t work hard on themselves first, and then they start to fall behind. This is why I focus on growing myself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually every day.
I got into financial planning five years ago because, growing up, money could be tight at times. Then one day, my parents told me they were going bankrupt. After hearing this news, I tried to figure out how to control my finances to avoid the same situation. This is the reason why I read so many books and articles about personal finances in my early 20s.
During my time in DC, I noticed many of my friends weren’t taking control over their finances, and I decided that I wanted to help them out as a financial planner. I love my career as a financial planner because I get to help people build a more secure future.
To ensure I continue to grow daily, I read, listen to podcasts, exercise, meditate, write down 10 ideas and three things I’m grateful for, and talk about uncomfortable topics with my wife. I do these things to train myself for the uncertain future that will happen and live my best life possible in the present. By doing these activities and being intentional with my time, I get one percent better every day.
I read at least 36 books every year because that is the average number a CEO reads, and I try to listen to 20 hours of podcasts a week. I gain so much valuable knowledge from reading and listening to podcasts that I decided to put my favorite lessons in one book. There are countless times where books like The Black Swan by Nasim Taleb have come up in conversations, and I was able to help give a new perspective to someone.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t read books, so I hope you pick up reading as well. You can start by checking out my Personal Development Resource Guide.
I feel great with myself and life, and it’s because I focus on growing myself first.
