Hi Everyone, welcome to the You’re Daily Cup of Joe Podcast, with your host Joe Bautista. In this podcast, my goal is to give you quick lessons that you can reflect on in your journal so you can grow yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and have a better career, better relationships, and better personal finances while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee.

I’m also the author of the book “More You Know, More You Grow: How to Get Better Every Day”. In this book, I wrote down over 30 tips to help you grow in those four cornerstones. I’m also the founder of Grow With Joe, where I combine self-development coaching and financial planning for Latino Professionals.

In today’s episode, we are going to talk about how the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen. Not every day is going to be a great day or even a good day. Things will happen in the schedule that will throw us off and cause us stress and anxiety. The worst thing we can do is keep that energy in our bodies.

This is why the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen. Even if you just go for a walk around the block, that time is so valuable. I know when I’m feeling anxious about work, taking a five-minute walk makes me feel so much better.

I also have a TRX in my apartment where I can do rows, pushups, squats, and lunges on. I also do various stretches to help me out. Lately, I’ve been using the TRX to help sit in a deep squat for 60 seconds and this helps stretch out my groin and lower back. I love the TRX because it’s so convenient to do exercises and it’s easy to carry around. I’ve been traveling through Latin America and it’s been my best friend.

The gym has also been closed here in Medellin since March so I haven’t been working out as hard as I used to. I love Kettlebells because the kettlebell swing is one of the best fat burner exercises you can do. Even though, I haven’t done a pretty good sweat because I’m trying to overcome this plantar fasciitis in my right foot and can’t run.

I’m just doing what I can and figure out how I can fit other exercises into my schedule. This doesn’t we should strive for good workouts. We need to challenge ourselves. I see people who don’t push themselves in the gym and they’re just the same person a year ago. They still have their belly and imbalances in their body. If you go to the gym and just work out minimally, it’s taken enough to overcome other harmful habits in your day.

When I was taking my public health classes at Portland State, I was taught that a 30-minute workout didn’t overcome sitting 8 straight hours at your desk and a poor diet. So also strive to get 10,000 steps a day. But don’t lie to yourself that you’re working hard when you’re really not. After the workout, can you say you gave your all? I don’t think you should give your all in every workout but at least once a month you should be breathing hard.

But if life is getting overwhelming, it’s okay that you don’t make it the gym for your regular 30 or 60-minute workout and just settle for a 5-minute workout. But the key thing is that you don’t stay with the five-minute workout when you can go back to your full workout. And it’s real easy to stay in a zone of comfort. And this is why you need to look at your calendar and see what you did for the past week.

If your schedule was super busy, then figure out how you can do something so you maintain the habit of working out. If you did the workout, was it hard enough or did you leave a lot in the tank? As a person, you decide your potential, but if you want to fulfill your potential, then you have to challenge yourself and do the things to maintain greatness.

That’s it for today’s episode, to summarize it, the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t give yourself a full workout. All you can do is all you can do, but make sure you’re doing all that you can do. So if you can’t fit in a full workout, then maybe buying some new equipment like a TRX can help you out. Or just go for a walk. There is always an alternative that can still give you a benefit. But also make sure to challenge yourself because the enemy of greatness, is being okay with being good. I have ambitious goals ahead of me so I’m going to do things that will challenge myself and that will help me in the future when I start tackling these challenges and you can do the same too.
