Hi Everyone, welcome to the You’re Daily Cup of Joe Podcast, with your host Joe Bautista. In this podcast, my goal is to give you quick lessons that you can reflect on in your journal so you can grow yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and have a better career, better relationships, and better personal finances while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee.

I’m also the author of the book “More You Know, More You Grow: How to Get Better Every Day”. In this book, I wrote down over 30 tips to help you grow in those four cornerstones. I’m also the founder of Grow With Joe, where I combine self-development coaching and financial planning for Latino Professionals.

In today’s episode, we are going to talk about how we need to be an apprentice of human nature. And if you want to learn about human nature, the best way to do so, in my opinion, is to read all of Robert Greene’s books and they are 48 Laws of Power, 33 Strategies of War, Mastery, The Art of Seduction, The 50th Law, and The Laws of Human Nature.

I read these books and I was blown away by what I learned. These books allowed me to observe my environment and see how people used these different strategies to live life. I like his books because Robert Greene does a really good job of looking at past events and breaking down what exactly happened. Usually, he gives an example of how someone benefited from this strategy and then gives a counter-example of someone use didn’t use the strategy correctly. Then at the book, he gives you a defense strategy in case someone is using these strategies against you.

And this is what I like the most, is I want to know when people are using strategies against me. I don’t want to be taken advantage of and if you enter a room and you don’t know who the sucker is, then you’re the sucker. And these books help you from being the sucker in the room. They have also helped me in interacting with other people so I can get my way.
Now I don’t try to use these books for evil, I use them to protect me against evil. And when you learn these tactics, then you can really live a better life. I feel like the Art of Seduction is a lost art. Everything seems very transactional these days and there is no seduction. When I go into a store, I wanted to have a warm feeling. That will make me feel a lot better and who doesn’t want that. I don’t care if the person doesn’t mean it, but if they can banter with me and make me feel special, then I’m more likely to come back.

I didn’t realize how important these were until read the book and could have helped me with a lot of my past interactions and relationships.
Depending on what you want in life, depends on what book you should read first. If you’re focused on your career, I would start with The 48 Laws of Power or 33 strategies of war. If you’re lost in life, go with Mastery. If you’re looking for a relationship, then the art of seduction. If you have poor social skills, then the laws of human nature. If you’re a minority and want to see how 50 Cent escaped Jamaica Queens and became a rapper, then the 50th Law. And 50 cent dealing with music executives was a lot harder to deal with than the drug dealers on the streets and it was the 48 Laws of Power that helped him out.

We’re going to be interacting with people and we should know how to interact with them. There are a lot of other things that you should learn to help you become an apprentice of human nature but I feel like these books are a great start.

I read these books at my last firm and I could see how I was being taken advantage of, and I don’t blame them because that’s how they stay in business. This is what a lot of businesses do but there is a trade-off that people make. You take the salary and give up on your dreams. So I the only person I would blame is myself and I took ownership by learning how to become better and now I do my own thing and much happier.

That’s it for today’s episode, to summarize it, we need to learn how to be an apprentice of human nature. In life, it’s up to us if we take advantage of life, or life takes advantage of us. I prefer to take advantage of life. And you don’t have to work for yourself, you can work for someone else, but just realize the deal before you accept the deal and if you know the laws of human nature, then you can make more favorable deals for yourself. And better deals for yourself typically means you have a better career, better relationships, and better personal finances, and who doesn’t want a better life?
