Hi Everyone, welcome to the You’re Daily Cup of Joe Podcast, with your host Joe Bautista. In this podcast, my goal is to give you quick lessons that you can reflect on in your journal so you can grow yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and have a better career, better relationships, and better personal finances while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee.
I’m also the author of the book “More You Know, More You Grow: How to Get Better Every Day”. In this book, I wrote down over 30 tips to help you grow in those four cornerstones. I’m also the founder of Grow With Joe, where I combine self-development coaching and financial planning for Latino Professionals.
In today’s episode, we are going to talk about how motivation is like bathing, it’s recommended daily. As a business owner, I need to find ways to motivate myself. I do this by listening to motivational videos, read biographies of people who made it past tremendous struggle, reviewing my goals in a journal, and tracking my progress.
If you go into business like me, you’re going to get a lot of setbacks. People who said they want to do business with you, but then ignore you. Marketing campaigns that you spend money on that don’t work at all. Trying to do events where no one shows up. As people, we want to be successful in our first attempt, but life is rarely successful on your first attempt.
I was listening to a YouTube video and he was talking about how you only need a success rate of 10% to run a successful business. You only need to close one out of ten people that you come across. So this means that most successful people are going to face a lot of rejection and need the motivation to get past it.
Plus the world is a dark place if you look hard enough and this can drain your spirits. Just go look on Netflix and you can find plenty of documentaries that show the dark side of the world. But finding something motivational can get you out of that funk and keep going.
Now motivation is just part of the equation. You also need to build up your skills but the motivation can be that jump-start you need to get moving in the right direction. Motivation without skills will just get you up but it won’t progress you forward.
When I first started out as a financial planner at my last firm, I used to listen to a lot of YouTube videos to help give me motivation. Now I find more motivation from reading biographies and listening to podcasts. The YouTube videos were really helpful with the mindset, but the biographies and podcasts help with pursuing bigger goals.
When I read a book or listen to a podcast, and learn about someone’s story and how they are living and the stuff they are creating, it motivates me to work harder on Grow With Joe. There are a lot of distractions out in this world, and we need daily reminders on why we are doing the things were are doing. Otherwise, we are more likely to stop growing, get distracted, or quit. Since we only have one life to live, might as well see how close we can get to our human potential by pursuing the things we want to create in this world.
And that’s it for today’s episode, to summarize it, motivation is like bathing, it’s recommended daily. So I recommend you start finding a podcast, YouTube videos, books, or movies, that you can consume daily so that when life throws the unexpected or lets you down, you can have something to help you get back up. There were many days in the past where I didn’t want to get out of bed because trying to create a business was so hard, but then I would listen to motivational YouTube videos and I would get out of bed. Life is hard and we need things to make it easier. So find that thing and it should make your journey easier.
