Hi Everyone, welcome to the You’re Daily Cup of Joe Podcast, with your host Joe Bautista, where my goal is to give you quick lessons on how to grow yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually so you can have better careers, better relationships, and better personal finances.
I’m also the author of the book “More You Know, More You Grow: How to Get Better Every Day”. In this book, I wrote down over 30 tips to help you grow in those four cornerstones.
In today’s episode, we’re are going to talk about the perfect morning routine. I got this morning routine from Hal Elrod who wrote the book the Miracle Morning. This book really changed my life because it really got me on the path to self-development. I was listening to a podcast while I was running and I heard Hal’s story and how he created his Miracle Morning Routine to help out in life. He got into a serious car wreck and he was on a long road to recovery and eventually he decided he wanted to implement all these self-development routines in his life and it changed his life.
The acronym Hal create for his Miracle Morning is called SAVERS which the first S stands for Silence, or meditating, A is for Affirmations so positive self-talk, V is for visualization, you visualize how your day is going to look, E is for exercise, that’s pretty much self-explanatory, R is for reading, and the final S is for scribing so writing in a journal.
I saw a lot of growth by following this routine and I tell folks in my coaching program to follow this routine as well. If you do this routine, you will get one percent better as an individual, and if you get one percent every for 365 days, you will become over 3700% better.
So let’s begin with the first S which is Silence. I have been bad with meditating because I like to do it in a sauna and I recently just moved to Oregon and I don’t have a gym membership. I do like to go for 30-minute walks each day and I just think. This gives me an opportunity to clear my mind and just start thinking about stuff and sometimes I think of a really good idea that I need to implement in my life.
I like meditating because if your mind the ability to slow things down and not get overwhelmed all things that are happening around us. The walks give the same purpose but I need to start adding meditating for five minutes to my routine. To meditate, I just breathe in for 6 seconds and then I breathe out for 6 seconds for 5-10 minutes. If a thought comes to my head, I recognize it and then I push it away and focus back on my breathing. This is a muscle that needs to be exercised and will get stronger the more you practice.
A is for affirmations so positive self-talk. I recommend you go on google and just search for some affirmations that you can use on a daily practice. My favorite affirmation is “No matter how hard it is or how hard it will be, I will get through it” and “You got this Joe, just keep going.” So when I have negative thoughts in my head, I just say those words and it puts me in the right mindset to conquer the task in front of me or to keep working on it. If you say these in the morning before you start your day, you will just accomplish the tasks in front of you.
V is for visualization. You visualize how your day is going to be. If you have a meeting or are about to make a pitch or whatever, you visualize what you’re going to do and so when you face that task in your day, you’re more prepared for it. I don’t usually visualize but what I do is time block my day so I know exactly what I need to do for my day to be successful. This is helpful because I don’t need time to think about what I should do, I’m just moving from task to task. So seeing my calendar is the visualization technique that I use.
E is for exercise. So Hal Elrod says that exercising is like giving Oxygen to the brain. It will give you more energy to handle your day. If you don’t time in the morning to do a full workout. Just do push-ups and squats and then you can do your full workout later in the day. I think exercising is extremely important is the fuel to help you move throughout the day efficiently. You’re filling up the tank with jet fuel instead of junk.
R is for reading. I think everyone should have a goal of two read 20 to 30 pages a day. If you do this, then you’ll read two books a month and that the average number a self-made millionaire reads. So reading is important because it gives you ideas on how to improve your life.
S is for scribing. When I scribe, I write down 3 things I’m grateful for, the most important thing I have to accomplish for the day and the uncomfortable thing I did for the day. I’m also trying to how am I feeling for the day. I just forget to do it. But when I write things down, especially my feelings, it gives me an opportunity to find out what is going on in my life and what is bugging me. I was feeling really upset at what happened in my last job, I didn’t really want to change anything, but I found out that once I wrote down what was bugging me. I stopped thinking about and moved on with my life. When you write down 3 things you’re grateful for, it reminds you that no matter how bad your day was, there are some still good things happening in your life. The important thing I have do reminds me that I need to that task or activity if I want to start bringing success to my life. And the uncomfortable thing reminds me that if I want to grow as a person that I need to do something uncomfortable. Remember, nothing grows in the comfort zone.
Following this routine just makes me a better person and if I put energy to growing myself and my competition isn’t, then I’m just going to blow them out of the water. Plus I know that I have some lofty goals ahead of me and if I want to reach them, then I have to be the best possible person I can be and that’s only going to happen if I invest in myself.
That’s it for today’s episode, to summarize it, I would highly recommend that you check out the book, “The Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod and follow his process which is SAVERS. He offers more tips and gives a pretty good story on how it came to be and how your life can improve from following the miracle morning.
