oHi Everyone, welcome to the You’re Daily Cup of Joe Podcast, with your host Joe Bautista, where my goal is to give you quick lessons on how to grow yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually so you can have better careers, better relationships, and better personal finances.
I’m also the author of the book “More You Know, More You Grow: How to Get Better Every Day”. In this book, I wrote down over 30 tips to help you grow in those four cornerstones.
In today’s episode, we’re are going to talk about how success leaves a trail. I know whatever goal I am pursuing, there has been somebody before me who has done the same thing. I like to model my behavior after a lot of successful people. That’s why I listen to 20 hours of podcasts a week, why I choose to read 36 books a year, and I watch about 10 hours of YouTube videos a week because I want to know what successful people are doing. I love learning because it gives me more clarity on what I should do with my life.
I don’t want to take 40 years to figure something out when I can read a book and learn the best lessons from somebody who already did it in five hours. That will save me so much time and will help me reach my goals faster. So when you’re pursuing a goal, don’t ask yourself how you can do it. Ask yourself, who knows how to do this already.
Now once you discover you’re who. Now you have a couple of options. You can ask them to mentor you. You can read their books and listen to their interviews, or you can hire them to give you advice. You have to understand that people are very busy folks and they don’t have time to take 30 minutes to answer your question.
So if you go down the path of the mentor because funds are tight. Don’t go after the superstar, go after the person that is a couple of steps ahead of you. They just did the work and they have it fresh in their mind on how to become successful. Plus since they just went through that pain and struggle of trying to reach their goals, they might have more sympathy to help you out.
I usually just go for the book or the podcast to help me out because there is a not of information to help you get better. I also pay for courses to make me better. Some are better than others but when you find the one that will change your life, it’s amazing because it’s like you got a ten-year shortcut.
YouTube is an amazing place to get started but usually they just tell you vague things on what to do that have to do deal with strategy. Like don’t give up, focus on the right things, upgrade your values, and others which are really good things to learn. They give you stuff to reflect on and make sure you’re not going down the wrong path.
So when I’m listening to these things, I’m getting tips on the strategy side but not really on the implementation side. It’s not going to tell you how to set up a business account or how to get a tax ein, because that is basic stuff that’s kind of boring but it is important to know. I wrote a book because I wanted to share all the knowledge that I accumulated and I was told that a book was a good marketing tool. Once you write a book, you can position yourself as an expert. I’m in the process of writing book two and three right now, so when I finish those projects, I can say I’m a Latino author of three books.
But I wasn’t told how to market the book and how to create it. I had to go out and figure that stuff myself. So when you’re listening to these podcasts, reading books, and watching YouTube videos, you have to understand that the path to success is going to require a bunch of different bricks from different areas of the web, like marketing, branding, strategy, and other things to help you become successful.
So that’s why I consume a bunch of different stuff, because I’m trying to figure out how I can take the best lessons from one area and apply them to my business. It’s like a soup with many different ingredients in them. So I have to go hunt for this knowledge and luckily for me they leave a trail.
We are so blessed that all these folks have recorded their knowledge for us to consume. I know I would not be here now with grow with joe if I only had to rely on my knowledge. I would have failed a long time ago. The key with the success is that I have to go out and grab that success. Success will never come towards you, you have to go after it.
You never want to wait on something, you go after it. If you have to wait, make sure you follow-up routinely so that it doesn’t escape you. I’ve been waiting four months to get my financial planning licenses to be approved, but I just followed up when I needed to so I could make sure that it happens as fast as possible.
So first I need to have the initiative to go out and learn the material, and then once I consume that stuff, I have to make sure I implement it in my life. If I don’t implement those lessons in my life, then it was just for nothing. I would say this is the hardest part because sometimes there is so much information that you’re learning it can become overwhelming but if you have your goals in place, then it will become much easier. If you’re trying to start a new business, the biggest thing you need to focus on is bringing in revenue. A business with no cash flow is going to cause a lot of problems but if you can bring in enough revenue, then that will solve most of your problems. So you should focus on the things and lessons that will generate income for you.
There are going to be a lot of trails that you can choose from, so if you don’t want to suffer from analysis paralysis, you need to be really focused on your goals. You need to know what you want out of life and how to get it. If the how isn’t helping you get to your what, then you’re focusing on the wrong thing.
So you have to
